The 13th FIFA Youth World Cup (officially FIFA World Youth Championship Argentina 2001 ) was from 17 June to 7 July 2001 in Argentina held. 24 teams (4 African, 4 Asian, 6 European, 5 South and 4 North American and 1 Oceanic) took part in the tournament. Spain, the world champion of the 12th championship in 1999, was not there.

Host Argentina beat Ghana 3-0 in the final . Argentina secured their 4th title and is now the sole record world champion. Third place went to Egypt, who beat Paraguay 1-0 in the third place match. The top scorer and best player of the tournament was Argentinian Javier Saviola with eleven goals .

The German team survived the preliminary round for the first time since 1987 and reached the second round, in which, however, they lost 3-2 to France. The junior teams from Austria and Switzerland could not qualify for the World Cup finals.
