The 2021 U-20 World Cup will take place in Indonesia . This is the 23rd edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup . This is the first FIFA tournament to be held in Indonesia. It will also be only the second U-20 World Cup in Southeast Asia . Malaysia had 1,997 visitors. It will also be the first FIFA tournament in the region since the 2012 Futsal World Cup in Thailand .

Choice of host

The following originally applied for hosting the tournament: Brazil (application withdrawn), Myanmar and Thailand (application withdrawn), Bahrain , Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (application withdrawn), Peru and Indonesia. On October 24, 2019, Indonesia was announced as the host after the FIFA Council meeting in Shanghai .

Venues

The Indonesian Football Association has proposed 10 stadiums in 10 cities in 7 provinces. Eight of the stadiums are on Java Island, one on Bali and one on Sumatra. Of these ten stadiums, six should be selected in March 2020, but the announcement of the venues has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

qualification

23 teams from 6 continents will qualify for the final round of the U20 World Cup. The continental U19 and U20 championships serve this purpose. Host Indonesia are automatically qualified for the finals.

  • Four teams from CONCACAF , the football association of North America and the Caribbean, are participating. The 2020 U20 championship serves as the qualifying tournament .
