The FIFA FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2015 (officially: 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup ) was the 20th edition of this tournament was held from 30 May to 20 June 2015 in New Zealand. Serbia became world champion.

Defending champion France could not qualify for the U-19 European Championship 2014 and thus, as the fourth defending champion, also not qualify for a U-20 World Cup.

By January 2011, competed for New Zealand , Peru , Tunisia and Wales to host the tournament: On 3 March 2011, announced FIFA that New Zealand will host the World Cup.

The following seven cities will host the 2015 U-20 World Cup:

qualification

In the final round, 24 teams competed, with 23 places at the individual U-19 continental championships. Host New Zealand automatically qualified for the finals.

The European association UEFA had six starting places. These were awarded at the U-19 European Championship 2014 , which took place from July 19 to 31, 2014 in Hungary .

The Asian football association AFC was entitled to four starting places. The 2014 U-19 Asian Cup , which was held in Myanmar from October 9 to 23, 2014, served as the qualifying tournament .

Four teams from CONCACAF , the football association of North America and the Caribbean, took part. The 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship served as the qualifying tournament . It was held from January 9th to 25th, 2015.

The African Football Association CAF had four starting places at this World Cup. The 2015 U-20 African Cup of Nations , which took place in Senegal from March 8 to 22, 2015, served as the qualifying tournament .

Four teams from the South American association CONMEBOL took part. The relevant tournament, the 2015 U-20 South American Championship , took place in Uruguay from January 14th to February 7th, 2015 .

The Oceania Football Confederation was given another starting place for the first time, as New Zealand was automatically qualified as host. The second participant was determined at the U-19 Oceania Championship 2014 . The tournament was held in Suva ( Fiji ) from May 23 to 31, 2014 . Fiji was able to qualify for a U-20 World Cup for the first time.

The groups were drawn on February 10, 2015 in Auckland and resulted in the following groups: The preliminary round will be held in six groups of four teams each. The six group winners and runners-up as well as the four best thirds in the group qualify for the round of 16.

  • With 16 goals, Germany surpassed the preliminary round goal record of Brazil (15) from 1997 and its own record (14) from 1987.
  • Fiji scored their first goal in a FIFA competition in their game against Germany and their first ever victory in a FIFA tournament by beating Honduras 3-0.
