The Okara Park (officially Northland Events Center ) is a rugby - and football stadium in the New Zealand city of Whangarei . Northland region . It is mostly used for rugby games ( rugby union and rugby league ), but also for football . It is the home ground of the Northland Rugby Football Union (Rugby Union) and the Northern Swords rugby league club . Opened in 1965, the facility near the Hātea River can accommodate 18,500 visitors.
Okara Park was completely renovated from 2008 to 2010 for 16 million NZD . It emerged u. a. a new main grandstand with 3,000 seats and an event center.
The sports facility was a venue for the 2011 Rugby Union World Cup and the 2015 U-20 World Cup .
