The al-Rashid Stadium ( Arabic استاد راشد) Is a football - and rugby - Stadium in Dubai , in the same emirate . The stadium is one of several home stadiums for al-Ahli Dubai , which plays in the country's highest league, the UAE Arabian Gulf League . The facility was built in 1948 and can seat 13,000 spectators.

history

The al-Rashid Stadium was built and opened in 1948, over 20 years before the founding of the United Arab Emirates during the Trucial States , making it the oldest sports stadium in Dubai . Ten minutes from Dubai Airport, the stadium is one of several home stadiums to al-Ahli Dubai , the city's oldest football club.

With a capacity of 18,000 at the time, the stadium was one of seven venues at the 2003 Junior World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. There were six group matches, two quarter-finals and one semi-finals. The stadium, which now had a capacity of 9,061 spectators, was used again for the U-17 World Cup in 2013 . Now six group games as well as eighth, quarter and semifinals took place there.

In November 2015, the final first leg of the AFC Champions League between al-Ahli Dubai and the Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande took place in the football stadium . A 0-0 draw and a 2-0 win in the second leg at the Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou Evergrande was able to win his second continental title.

The stadium was designated as one of eight venues for the 2019 Asian Cup , which will be held for the first time with 24 teams . Four group matches and one round of 16 were played in the 13,000-seat venue.
