The Tianhe Stadium ( Chinese  天河 体育 中心 体育场 ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Tianhe District of the Chinese city ​​of Guangzhou , Guangdong Province . The Guangzhou Evergrande football club uses it for its home games in the Chinese Super League . It seats 54,856 spectators.

history

Construction of the facility began on July 4, 1984 at the former location of Guangzhou Tianhe Airport . It was built in 1987 for the 6th Chinese National Games of the year. In 1991 the final of the women's soccer world championship and in 2010 the soccer tournament of the Asian Games took place in the sports facility . The Chinese first division team Guangzhou Evergrande has played its home games in the stadium since 2011. The venue was one of the two venues for the final of the AFC Champions League in 2013 and 2015 .

The right to operate the stadium was granted to Guangzhou Evergrande on February 24, 2016 by the Guangzhou Sports Bureau for a period of twenty years.
