The Hindmarsh Stadium is a rugby - and football stadium in the district Hindmarsh the Australian city of Adelaide , State of South Australia . As a result of a sponsorship agreement with Coopers Brewery , the facility has been called the Coopers Stadium since 2013 . The venue offers space for around 16,500 spectators, including around 15,000 seats. It is currently the home ground of the Adelaide United football club . The stadium is state owned and managed by the Adelaide Venue Management Corporation .
history
The sports facility, built in 1960, is mainly used for football and was the home ground of the NSL teams Adelaide City and West Adelaide SC . In 1981 and 1993 the Hindmarsh Stadium was one of the venues for the Junior World Cup . The facility was renovated on the occasion of the 2000 Olympic football tournament . The main grandstand was modernized and the standing room at the ends of the goal and the back straight was replaced by uncovered grandstands. A further 5,000 temporary seats were created for the Olympic tournament.
In 2004, a large part of the group stage of the Oceania Cup took place in the stadium , and in 2006 it was the main venue for the women's Asian Cup . The record attendance of 17,000 spectators was set up in the second leg of the final of the AFC Champions League 2008 between Adelaide United and Gamba Osaka .
In addition to football, the Hindmarsh Stadium also plays rugby league . In 1998, the Adelaide Rams played four of their home games in Hindmarsh as part of the National Rugby League .
The Hindmarsh Stadium is intended to be the venue for the 2023 Women's World Cup .
