Events

The Dome and Exhibition Complex is an event complex consisting of several multi-purpose halls in the Olympic Park in the Australian city of Sydney .

history

On the occasion of the 2000 Summer Olympics , construction work on the hall began in May 1998. These were completed in January of the following year.

The Dome has a circular floor plan, is up to 42 meters high and has a floor area of ​​7,200 square meters. This can be expanded to 21,600 square meters with the adjacent exhibition halls 2, 3 and 4.

Competitions were held throughout the complex during the Olympic Games. The Dome was the site of basketball games and handball finals. All other handball games and the shooting and fencing competitions of the modern pentathlon took place in the adjacent exhibition hall 2. The badminton and rhythmic gymnastics competitions were held in Hall 3. Exhibition hall 4 was the venue for the two volleyball tournaments.

The total capacity of the complex was 28,000 seats during the games, these were divided as follows:

  • The Dome: 10,000 seats
  • Exhibition hall 2: 6,000 seats (handball, modern pentathlon)
  • Exhibition hall 3: 6,000 seats (badminton, rhythmic gymnastics)
  • Exhibition hall 4: 6,000 seats (volleyball)
