The Stadio Flaminio is a rugby and football stadium in the Italian capital, Rome . It is located on Via Flaminia , around three kilometers north of the city center and is mainly used for football and rugby union games. The stadium has space for 24,973 spectators, 8,000 seats are covered.
history
A first Stadio Flaminio was built in 1911, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Risorgimento . In 1927 the Partito Nazionale Fascista had a new building built on the same site. This new stadium was named Stadio del Partito Nazionale Fascista (short: Stadio Nazionale del PNF ; German National Stadium of the National Fascist Party ) and hosted, among other things, the final of the 1934 World Cup . The two Roman clubs Lazio and AS also played their home games in the arena until the opening of the Olympic Stadium in 1952.
The Stadio Nazionale PNF was demolished and replaced in 1957 by the structure that exists today. The architects were Pier Luigi Nervi and his son Antonio , the official opening took place on March 12, 1959. When the Olympic Stadium Rome was rebuilt in 1989/90 with a view to the World Cup in 1990 , AS Rome and Lazio Rome temporarily held their home games here out.
The Stadio Flaminio is the home stadium of the rugby club Unione Rugby Capitolina and the former home stadium of the soccer club AS Cisco Roma (from 2010: Atletico Roma), which was dissolved in 2011. In addition, the Italian national rugby union team played all home games at the Stadio Flaminio from 2000 to 2011.
Inside the stadium building there is an indoor swimming pool as well as facilities for fencing , wrestling , weight lifting , boxing and gymnastics .
