The Sapporo Dome ( Japanese : 札幌 ド ー ム , Sapporo dōmu ) is a permanently roofed stadium in Sapporo , Japan . It has a football capacity of 41,484. With additional, mobile seats, the stadium holds z. B. at concerts a maximum of 53,738 visitors. As a special feature, the stadium has a removable soccer field that can be exchanged for a baseball field or used as an open space. In order to be able to drive out the soccer field, grandstands are moved, the lawn rotated and moved lengthways into the open air.

history

The stadium was built for the 2002 World Cup . Here, among other things, the German national soccer team defeated Saudi Arabia 8-0 and thus laid the foundation for the later finals. Competitions were also held in the Sapporo Dome at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 ; For the first time, part of the sprint races in cross-country skiing led through a hall. In 2008 the Rally Japan stopped at the Dome. The Sapporo Dome is a venue for the 2019 Rugby Union World Cup . The stadium is currently home to the Hokkaidō Nippon Ham Fighters in the Japanese baseball league and the Consadole Sapporo soccer team , since 2012 in the J1 League , the highest Japanese soccer league.
