Tōkyō Taiikukan

The Tōkyō Taiikukan ( Japanese 東京 体育館 , "Tokyo Sports Hall"; English Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium , "Tokyo Prefecture Sports Hall") is an event hall built in 1954 in the Shibuya district of Tokyo Prefecture. It is located in the Sendagaya district in western central Tokyo and has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.

The owner is the Tokyo Prefecture, the operator is the Tōkyō-to Sports Bunka Jigyōdan , a foundation ( zaidan-hōjin ) which, on behalf of the prefecture administration , manages several sports facilities such as B. operates the Olympic Park Komazawa .

Numerous national and international sporting events and concerts by well-known artists took place in the Tōkyō Taiikukan. At the Olympic Games in 1964, the hall was used for gymnastics and swimming competitions.
