The Nagai Stadium ( jap. 大阪市長居陸上競技場 , Osaka-shi Nagai rikujō kyōgijō , German  "Nagai athletic stadium of the city of Osaka" ) is a football stadium with athletics track in Nagai Park Borough Higashisumiyoshi in Japanese Osaka .

history

It was built in 1964 and extensively renovated and expanded in 1996. It currently offers space for 50,000 spectators. The Japanese football club Cerezo Osaka plays its home games in the J. League in the stadium . During the soccer world championship in 2002 two preliminary round matches and a quarter-finals were played in the arena. In August / September 2007, the stadium hosted the 11th World Athletics Championships .
