The Stadio Carlo Zecchini is a football stadium with an athletics facility in Grosseto . The Italian city ​​is located in the province of the same name in the Tuscany region . The stadium's capacity is now 9,988 spectators.

history

The sports facility, opened in 1960 under the name Stadio Olimpico Comunale , is the venue for the US Grosseto football club . The current name goes back to a former player of the club in the 1960s. The first game took place on June 5, 1960 between the Olympic teams of Italy and France (1-1).

The stadium was the venue for three soccer games at the 1960 Summer Olympics .

International athletics competitions were also held in the arena. In 2001 the European Athletics Junior Championships stopped in Grosseto. Three years later it was the World Junior Athletics Championships .

In 2007 US Grosseto rose to Serie B and the venue was adapted to the requirements. Access to the stadium has been improved; the changing rooms renewed; an electronic scoreboard installed and a new lawn laid.
