Junior World Championships 2002 Junior World Championships 2006

The 10th Junior World Championships in Athletics took place from July 12th to 18th, 2004 at the Stadio Carlo Zecchini in Grosseto . The 2001 European Junior Athletics Championships were held at the same location .

Decisions were made in 44 competitions, 22 each for men and women. The women's obstacle course was included in the program for the first time at the Junior World Athletics Championships . 1429 athletes from 181 countries were registered, of which 1261 from 168 countries actually competed.

By far the strongest nation in the title fights was the United States with 13 gold medals. In addition, the US sprinters set junior world records in three of four relay competitions on the last day of competition . Among them was LaShawn Merritt , who not only triumphed in the 400-by-100 and 4-by-400-meter relay, but also in the 400-meter run and thus became the most successful athlete of the World Cup with three gold medals. Overall, the performance in Grosseto was at a high level. New championship records were set in 13 competitions.
