Laura Whittle (born Kenney , born June 27, 1985 in Blackpool ) is a British athlete who competes in medium and long-distance running .
Athletic career
Motivated by her father, a British marathon runner, Laura Kenney started athletics at the age of eleven. In 2003 she finished fourth at the European Junior Championships over 3000 meters. She started her career in cross-country skiing and won the gold medal in the U23 age group as part of the team in 2006. The following year, she won the European Under23 Athletics Championships in 2007 in the Hungarian city of Debrecen over 5000 meters. In the following years she could not approach the European level and therefore studied at Loughborough University on the side . It was only in 2014 that she started at the Commonwealth Games for the first time in a long time at a major international event, where she represented Scotland and finished sixth over 5000 meters.
With a new personal best in May 2016, Whittle qualified for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she finished fifth. A qualification for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro did not stand in the way, but there she failed because of a semi-finals and was eliminated in the preliminary round.
In 2010 she married the 1,500 meter runner Rob Whittle and has since started under the name Whittle.
