Brimin Kiprop Kipruto
Brimin Kiprop Kipruto (born July 31, 1985 in Korkitony near Chebiemit , Marakwet ) is a Kenyan obstacle runner . He became Olympic champion in 2008.
Career
The junior vice world champion in 2001 in the 2000 meter obstacle course became the African junior champion over 3000 meters in 2003.
After qualifying for the Olympic Games in Athens , he took part in an international junior competition for the last time in the summer of 2004 and won bronze in the 1,500-meter run at the junior world championships . In Athens he then won silver over the 3000 meter obstacle. Ezekiel Kemboi (gold) and Paul Kipsiele Koech (bronze) completed the Kenyan triple triumph.
At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , he won bronze in the same discipline. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka he won the gold medal over the 3000 meter obstacle course in front of his compatriots Ezekiel Kemboi and Richard Kipkemboi Mateelong with a time of 8: 13.82 minutes . A year later at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Mateelong, Kemboi and Kipruto again represented the Kenyan team. Kipruto won gold in 8: 10.34 minutes ahead of the French Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad and Mateelong, while Kemboi, as defending champion, only finished seventh. At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu , Kipruto secured the silver medal with a time of 8: 16.05 minutes.
In 2011, at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco, Kipruto missed the world record set by Saif Saaeed Shaheen (7: 53.63 min) with 7: 53.64 min by a hundredth of a second.
At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , he could not repeat his victory in Beijing. After a fall, Kipruto made it back to the top in the final lap, but in the last few meters he could no longer keep the pace of the leading group and had to be content with 5th place. At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , he won the bronze medal behind his compatriots Kemboi and Kipruto . He finished sixth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
