Arthur Russell (athlete)
Arthur Russell (born March 13, 1886 in Walsall , West Midlands , † August 23, 1972 ibid) was a British athlete and Olympic champion .
Originally from Staffordshire , Russell was the British champion in the obstacle course three times in a row between 1904 and 1906 . At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , the obstacle course took place over a distance of 3200 meters, which roughly corresponded to the usual distance of 2 miles in Great Britain. In his preliminary run, he was one of only two runners who even reached the finish. He won the final with a lead of almost two meters over his compatriot Archie Robertson .
