Amos Biwott (born September 8, 1947 in Nandi, Kenya ) is a former Kenyan athlete and Olympic champion .

Before the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , Biwott had only contested a 3,000-meter obstacle course three times . He also ran a style that was unusual at the time because he was the first not to set foot on the hurdles and then jump off. Instead, he overcame the hurdle with great effort in a single movement. He was the only runner who did not get wet feet when jumping over the moat in both the preliminaries and in the final. He won the final with a lead of six tenths of a second over his compatriot Benjamin Kogo .

He could not repeat this surprising success. He finished third in the 1970 British Commonwealth Games , sixth in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and eighth in the 1974 British Commonwealth Games . He ran his personal best of 8: 23.73 minutes in the run-up to the 1972 Olympic Games. He then ended his sports career and was employed by the Kenyan prison authorities. However, he was released without notice in 1978 after being prosecuted for theft. Since then he has been working as a security guard for a stadium.
