Julius Korir

Julius Korir (born April 21, 1960 in Nandi County ) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner and Olympic champion in the 3000 meter obstacle course .

biography

He gained international attention in 1982 when he surprisingly won the gold medal in the 3000 meter obstacle course at the Commonwealth Games . The following year he increased his best performance, but was only seventh at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki . When he won his semi-finals at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Korir was considered one of the favorites to win. In the final race, he went unstoppable half a lap from the finish and won the gold medal.

Because of an injury Korir missed the entire 1985 season. After that, he was ousted in his specialty by younger runners from the national team.

Julius Korir attended Kaptumo Secondary School in Kapsabet and began studying at Washington State University in the winter of 1983 .
