The list of Olympic champions in athletics provides an overview of all medal winners in athletics competitions at the Olympic Games . Due to the large amount of data, it is divided into four sublists.

• All male medalists since 1896 are listed under All medal winners , divided into competitions that are part of the current competition program and competitions that are no longer held.
• All female medalists since 1928 are listed under All medalists , also broken down according to current and no longer held competitions.
• The list of the most successful participants includes all athletes who have won at least two gold medals.
• The list of national rankings contains the medal table, broken down according to the total number of medals won and according to gender.
