In 2016, the International Weightlifting Federation found that Kazakh Ilya Ilyin had been doped in both 2008 and 2012. The reallocation of the medals is still pending.

The International Olympic Committee subsequently disqualified first-placed Chinese Chen Xiexia and second-placed Turkish Sibel Özkan from 2008 for positive doping tests. The medals were redistributed to the next best athletes.
