Career
Leopold Friedrich's career as a weightlifter began after the end of the First World War at Leopoldstädter AK (Athletes Club) Vienna . Later he switched to the wage-wage contractor AK Vienna .
In 1922 he was the first Austrian middleweight champion . In a four-way battle, he relegated Karl Freiberger from Währinger AK Wien , who weighed 378.5 kg, to second place with 380.5 kg . In 1923 he played the world championships in Vienna. Again in a four-way fight he achieved 375 kg in the middleweight division and with this performance he was runner-up behind Karl Freiberger, who reached 387.58 kg. In the same year he was again Austrian champion, starting in the light heavyweight division for the first time, reaching 407 kg in four-way combat and relegating Rudolf Straßer from AK Cherusker Vienna to 2nd place.
In 1924 Leopold Friedrich had to face his old competitor Karl Freiberger, who scored 505 kg and 487.5 kg, both at the Vienna Championship, where he scored 499.5 kg in the light heavyweight pentathlon, and at the Olympic qualification in Vienna with 475 kg kg scored, give beaten. At the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, Leopold Friedrich weighed 490 kg in a pentathlon. With this performance he came in 3rd place behind the outstanding Frenchman Charles Rigoulot , who scored 502.5 kg and Fritz Hünenberger from Switzerland , who like him lifted 490 kg, but was a little lighter than him, and thus won the bronze medal. Karl Freiberger came in this competition with 487.5 kg on the thankless 4th place.
In 1925 Leopold Friedrich was again Austrian champion in the semi-heavyweight competition. With 405 kg he relegated Viktor Biancho from AK Herkules Wien to 2nd place in a four-way fight .
After that, Leopold Friedrich no longer appears in any winners list.
