Yao Jingyuan
Yao Jingyuan (born June 14, 1958 in Yingkou , Liaoning Province , China ) is a former Chinese weightlifter . He was an Olympic lightweight champion in 1984 .
Career
Yao Jingyuan began lifting weights as a teenager in 1973 on a school team in Yingkou. Due to his good performance, he soon joined the Liaoning Province team and, in 1979, joined the Chinese national weightlifting team. At a height of 1.64 meters, he always started as an adult in the lightweight, the weight class that had its weight limit of 67.5 kg in its time.
His first performance, which is known, he achieved on the occasion of an international match between China and the Federal Republic of Germany on April 18, 1984 in Hangzhou , where he scored 272.5 kg (112.5-160) in a duel. Shortly afterwards he came in the Chinese championship in lightweight with 280 kg (120-160) behind Chao Xinmin , 295 kg, on the 2nd place.
1979 Yao Jingyuan finished at the Asian Championships in Tokyo with 292.5 kg (125–167.5) behind Hirai from Japan , who achieved 295 kg (132.5–162.5) and ahead of the North Korean Li Gwang-Ju, 290 kg (130–160), 2nd place. It was used in 1979 at the World Championships in Saloniki and came in 7th place with 295 kg (122.5–172.5). With his performance in jerking of 172.5 kg he won a bronze medal in the World Championships .
In 1980 he could not take part in the Olympic Games in Moscow because these games were boycotted by China for political reasons. This year he improved his personal best in a duel at an international tournament in Shanghai to 312.5 kg (137.5-175). In 1981 he started again at the World Championships, which took place in Lille , where he managed to snap 132.5 kg. In pushing he made three failed attempts there, so that he remained unplaced at this world championship without a valid duel result.
In 1982 Yao Jingyuan won the Asian Games in New Delhi in the lightweight with 307.5 kg ahead of the Japanese Shimaya and his compatriot Chao Xinmin. At the World Championships this year in Ljubljana he was not used.
At the 1983 World Cup in Moscow, when Chinese athletes competed in the Soviet Union for the first time in many years, he came in 5th place with 315 kg (140-175). In 1984 the greatest success in the career of Yao Jingyuan followed, as he became an Olympic lightweight champion in Los Angeles. He achieved there in a duel 320 kg (142.5-177.5) with which he was ahead of Andrei Socaci, Romania, 312.5 kg (142.5-170) and Jouni Gronman from Finland, 312.5 kg (140-172 , 5) won. At the same time he was also world champion in duels and jerks there.
Yoa Jingyuan continued his career after his Olympic victory and took 3rd place at the 1985 World Championships in Södertälje with 315 kg (140-175) behind Mikhail Petrow, 335 kg (145-190) and Weselin Galabarow, 330 kg ( 150–180), both from Bulgaria.
In 1986 he finally won the Asian Games in Seoul in the lightweight ahead of his compatriot Lin Xiangkui and Kim Ki-Wong, South Korea. The performances from this championship are unfortunately not known.
After that he is no longer included in any winners list at international championships.
