Edmond Decottignies

Edmond Decottignies (born December 3, 1893 in Comines , † June 3, 1963 ) was a French weightlifter .

Decottignies was a good gymnast from a young age and discovered his talent for weightlifting in 1911. He became a member of the Travailleurs de Comines association and participated in championships even before the First World War . a. at the European Championships in Nice in 1913 . Results are not known.

Decottignie's greatest success was its start at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris . There he won the gold medal in the lightweight with a performance of 440 kg in the pentathlon in front of Anton Zwerina , Austria , 427.5 kg and Bohumil Durdis , Czechoslovakia , with 425 kg. The competition consisted of one-armed snapping and pushing as well as two-arm pushing, snatching and pushing.

In 1921, 1923 and 1924 Decottignies also became French champions.

In honor of Edmond Decottignies, the weightlifting tournament Memorial Edmond Decottignies will be held in Comines for the eleventh time in 2006 .
