Zhang Guozheng (born September 14, 1974 in Xianyou , Fujian ) is a former Chinese weightlifter .

Career

Zhang first appeared at the 1999 World Championships in Athens , where the then 25-year-old finished 5th in the lightweight category with 337.5 kg. With the same duel load, he finished fourth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney a year later . At his second World Cup in 2002, however, he was able to win gold in duels and jerks, as well as silver in snatch. In 2003, a year later, he repeated this, only this time with gold in tears.

He was able to live up to his role as a favorite at the 2004 Olympic Games and won a duel weighing 347.5 kg and 2.5 kg ahead of his competitor Lee Bae Young from South Korea. In 2007, the 33-year-old was able to win the World Cup in Chiang Mai again . Although Zhang prepared intensively for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , the younger Liao Hui and Shi Zhiyong were nominated in his place for the 69 kg class.
