John Thiessen (* 1906 on the island of Sumatra ; † 1986 ) was an American-Dutch clergyman who became known as a missionary in North Sumatra among the Indonesian people of the Batak .

Life

John Thiessen was born in Sumatra and studied in Oxford . He spoke eight languages ​​and was called with a wink but respectfully the jungle missionary, missionary of the Indians, evangelist of the headhunters, preacher all over the world.

He became known in Germany in 1959 when he proclaimed " Christ on the Reeperbahn " in front of the Davidwache .
