The Wetzlarer Mädchenchor (formerly: youth choir "Frohe Message" and Wetzlarer youth choir ) was an evangelical choir made up of growing female voices under the direction of Margret Birkenfeld .

It emerged from Margret Birkenfeld's children's choir work for the record publisher Hermann Schulte in Wetzlar. The oldest singers in the teenage choir urged their choir director to be allowed to form her own singing community. Since the boys had to sit out at this age due to their change of voice , a choir of early female voices was created. At first, the new formation only acted as a smaller and more mature cast of the Wetzlar Children's Choir as part of its children's record production, but soon developed an intense life of its own. Initially under the name Wetzlarer Jugendchor , the singers produced records and traveled nationwide with their own concert program and self-sewn uniform made of floor-length blue skirts and white blouses. When, however, in 1975, the return of the freshly trained male voices, expressly requested by the female singers, did justice to the term “youth choir” for the newly formed mixed choir , subsequent generations remained as a “girls' choir”.

Since then, the girls' choir has served as a transitory step between the Wetzlar children's choir and the youth choir , but from then on remained in the context of teenage-friendly children's music. Finally, the choir returned to its original form and was only put together on a project basis if a more mature sound was desired for titles aimed at older children.
