Wilfried Mann

Wilfried Mann (* 1931 in Frankfurt am Main ; † May 27, 2001 ) was a German singer with a bass-baritone voice . Active in the Christian music scene, his repertoire ranged from classical church music to the New Spiritual Song .

Life

Wilfried Mann was born the son of a Methodist pastor in Frankfurt am Main . He first learned the trade of a businessman with the prospect of being able to finance his singing lessons in this way in order to become an opera singer. Wilfried Mann finally studied singing in Karlsruhe with Hans Emge , in Wiesbaden with Paul Lohmann and in Frankfurt with Hermann Heßler .

He came to the radio mission through the publisher and then chairman of the Evangeliums-Rundfunk, Hermann Schulte, and soon became one of the best-known male voices on the Christian music scene. At the end of the 1960s, Schultes' record label released Happy Message in the song Wilfried Mann's first singles. Since then, she has worked closely with Margret Birkenfeld , then head of the music department, on various projects with her Wetzlar choirs . But stylistically more distant artists such as Siegfried Fietz or the Janz team also repeatedly use the unmistakable bass baritone in special projects.

From 1963 to 1987, Wilfried Mann was also the managing director of Evangeliums-Rundfunk in Wetzlar . Mission trips during this time took him to Africa and South America . In 1990 he became the managing director of the Evangelical Missions Working Group until he retired in 1993.

In addition, Wilfried Mann directed the Jubilate Choir for many years until his death . Founded in the 1970s by merging the Wetzlar Evangelium Choir and the first studio choir of Evangeliums-Rundfunks and relaunched at the end of the 1980s, the Jubilate Choir is still active today and can look back on decades of successful concert and production history.

In 1998 Wilfried Mann appeared alongside other artists from the Christian music scene such as Doris Loh , Manfred Siebald and Jochen Rieger as well as the Wir-singen-für-Jesus-Chor and the Wetzlar Youth Choir at the charity concert Festival of Songs of the Missionary Work Euroteam .

Wilfried Mann died in 2001 at the age of 69 from a tumor. He has given over 500 concerts and his voice can be heard on over twenty solo albums and concept productions.
