ERF Choir (formerly: ERF Studiochor , also studio choir of Evangeliums-Rundfunks ) is the ERF Medien choir .

history

The ERF Choir was founded in 1978 by the music officer of Evangeliums-Rundfunks (today ERF Medien ), the Swedish musician Nils Kjellström , as the station's studio choir in order to expand the music library with his own recordings. About a year later, Johannes Nitsch , who took over the management of the music department at ERF due to Kjellström's career change to his own record label Blue Rose , began to use the concept of the studio choir intensively in order to bypass musical bottlenecks. Over the years, the choir recorded over 500 tracks.

In 1980 Gerhard Schnitter took over the management of the ERF studio choir . Under his direction, the choir began to work outside of broadcasting for the first time. In 1982 the first long-playing record, a concept album about Martin Luther , appeared under the title Verleih uns Frieden gnädlichen: Martin Luther as a poet and singer with Schulte & Gerth . The choir also began to set up a live presence with concerts. In the following 15 years numerous CDs were created, ranging from song collections to concept projects and musicals. The concert tours ultimately not only extended nationwide, but the choir toured the USA several times on its international tours, as well as France, South Tyrol and, in August 1989, the USSR.

When Gerhard Schnitter switched to the Hänssler-Verlag as a music editor in 1995 , Johannes Nitsch was again in charge of the ERF studio choir until 1997 when the music teacher Annette Rautenberg took over the direction of the choir. She conducted the choir for eleven years. In 2009 Mirjam Langenbach took over the management. Under her leadership, the choir changed its name from ERF Studiochor to ERF Chor , in order to highlight the changed focus of the choir's work, which led away from the studio into concert activities and the organization of services. Since the beginning of 2013 the ERF Choir has been under the joint direction of Udo Müller (conductor) and Rainer Buß (keyboard instruments). The main concern of the choir today is public relations and financial support for the ERF media.
