Yukio Imanaka ( Japanese 今 仲 幸雄 , Imanaka Yukio ; * 1949 in Narita , Chiba Prefecture ) is a singer of classical sacred music as well as gospel hymns and new spiritual songs in the baritone range .

Life

Growing up in a Buddhist family environment, Imanaka came into contact with Christianity when he came to a Christian music school in Yokohama in preparation for a singing course at the art school . During his time here he decided to convert to the Christian faith. After successfully completing his studies, Imanaka moved to Germany in 1976 to continue his education at the Detmold Music Academy and a few years later became a lecturer himself. In 1980 he won first prize at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig.

Imanaka became known in the Christian music scene when Gerhard Schnitter , then head of the music department of Evangeliums-Rundfunks , engaged him in 1983 as a soloist for his choir concept Du bist unsre zuversicht , in which he presented his own new youth choir songs with the ERF studio choir . In the same year, the head music producer at Schulte & Gerth Publishing , Margret Birkenfeld , invited him to the Wetzlar studio choir for her concept Stern, which I look at, and again had him sing solos. In 1986 Gerhard Schnitter finally produced Imanaka's solo debut Ja zu Gottes Wegen with the participation of the ERF studio orchestra under the direction of Christoph Adt . Imanaka also recorded numerous tracks for ERF's radio broadcasts, some of which have not yet been released on recordings. He also continued to work several times as a soloist for choir projects, including for Jochen Rieger and his Schulte & Gerth studio choir for the poet portrait of Nikolaus Ludwig Graf von Zinzendorf , published in 1989 by Gerth Medien under the title Jesu, geht ahead .
