The Schulte & Gerth Studiochor (also: S&G Studiochor , Gerth Medien Studiochor ) was the in-house choir of the Christian publishing house Schulte & Gerth , today's Gerth Medien , under the direction of Jochen Rieger .

history

The history of the Schulte & Gerth studio choir goes back to the Wetzlar studio choir , which was brought to life by Margret Birkenfeld in the 1960s to implement various music concepts and recording projects at the then Hermann Schulte publishing house in Wetzlar . In 1986 she handed over the management of the music department to Jochen Rieger. In 1987 he recorded his first concept album, Many Paths to Songs by Thomas Eger with the studio choir. As with its predecessor, the line-up was made up of befriended musicians and singers from non-project-dependent singing formations such as the Wetzlar Youth Choir and initially remained largely identical. Soon, however, there was a clear rejuvenation of the choral sound image - mainly due to the voices of the youth choir, which was dissolved at the end of the 1980s - which ultimately made the Schulte & Gerth studio choir an important phenomenon of the late youth choir movement .

The Schulte & Gerth studio choir recorded both classical church music and modern sacred choral music as well as Israeli folklore on its dozen or so concept albums . In 1988 the first episode of the Lebendige Psalmen series appeared under the title Taufrisch . The modern psalm settings are among the choir's most successful publications. The classical church music albums include projects involving poets such as Dora Rappard and Nikolaus Ludwig Graf von Zinzendorf . As a guest, the studio choir appeared regularly alongside other artists such as Thea Eichholz and vocals on the early albums of the songwriter Werner Hoffmann .

With the flattening of the youth choir movement, however, the choir projects became rarer. In 2000, the choir worked alongside young artists such as the girl band Sharona on their last project, the Christmas album Sternenglanz brightens die Nacht . Three years later, in 2003, the following Christmas concept, God's light shines in the hearts , appeared, in which the studio choir merged perspectives with Jochen Rieger's pop choir . In addition, the light medley from the previous album was reused. However, since the company had changed its publisher name to Gerth Medien in the meantime, a more detailed designation was avoided in the booklet and only "studio choir" was given. In advertising texts, however, the name Gerth Medien Studiochor appeared.
