Career

Horatio Bisbee attended the common schools and then the Tufts College in Medford ( Massachusetts ). Between 1861 and 1863 he took part in the civil war as an officer in the Union Army . He made it to the colonel. In 1863 he moved to Illinois . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1864, he began working in his new profession in Jacksonville (Florida) in 1865 . Between 1869 and 1873 he was a federal attorney for the northern part of Florida. For a short time he also served as Attorney General of that state. Politically, Bisbee became a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1876 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Florida , where he succeeded William J. Purman on March 4, 1877 . The election result was challenged by his Democratic opponent Jesse Johnson Finley . After this objection was granted, he had to resign his mandate on February 20, 1879, two weeks before the end of the legislature, to Finley.

In 1878 Bisbee ran unsuccessfully against the Democrat Noble A. Hull in the second district of Florida . This time Bisbee appealed against the outcome of the election. This was complied with on January 22, 1881. This enabled him to end the last weeks of the current legislative period in Congress . In the congressional elections of 1880 Bisbee lost to his old rival Jesse Finley in the second constituency. Bisbee also appealed against this result and was able to take over the mandate on June 1, 1882, after he was right in Congress. After being re-elected, he remained in the US House of Representatives until March 3, 1885. In 1884 it was not confirmed.

After leaving Congress, Horatio Bisbee withdrew from politics. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Dixfield on March 27, 1916.
