Jefferson B. "Jeff" Miller (born June 27, 1959 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) is an American real estate agent and politician of the Republican Party . From 2001 he was a member of the US House of Representatives for Florida . Since he did not run for re-election in 2016, he left the House of Representatives on January 3, 2017 .

biography

Jeff Miller was born in Saint Petersburg. After graduating from high school , he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Florida in 1984 . Before going into politics he worked as a real estate agent and deputy sheriff . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party until 1997 . Then he switched to the Republicans. He was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2001 .

In a special election in 2001 he was elected to succeed Joe Scarborough in the United States House of Representatives. He prevailed with 66% of the vote against the Democrat Steve Briese. In the following elections he was always able to defend his seat with at least 69% of the votes, whereby he was confirmed in office with 81% of the votes in the 2010 elections . He represented the First Congressional District of Florida. Miller, who was also re-elected in 2012 and 2014, declared his decision not to run again in 2016 and resigned from Congress on January 3, 2017. Until then, was a member of the Armed Forces Committee , the United States House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as a subcommittee.

Miller is married with two children and two grandchildren. He lives near Pensacola and is a Methodist .
