James W. Grant (1982)

James William Grant (born September 21, 1943 in Lake City , Florida ) is an American politician . Between 1987 and 1991 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Grant attended Taylor County High School in Perry until 1960 . He then studied at Florida State University in Tallahassee until 1963 and later at the University of Florida in Gainesville . He then worked as a businessman. Among other things, he also worked in the banking industry.

Politically, Grant first became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1982 and 1984 he was a member of the Florida Senate . In the 1986 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Florida , where he succeeded Don Fuqua on January 3, 1987 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1991 . On February 21, 1989 he joined the Republican Party . In 1990 he was defeated as their candidate to the Democrat Pete Peterson . Two years later, Grant ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate against incumbent Bob Graham .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Grant founded the consulting firm MK Meridian Inc. , of which he is chairman to this day. This company tries to help mediate international disputes. He was also Vice President of a global chemical company in Ukraine . Grant is married and has four children.
