William Gregory Steube (born May 19, 1978 in Bradenton , Florida ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). Since January 3, 2019, he has been a member of the Florida State Representative in the United States House of Representatives . Prior to this office, he was a member of the Florida Senate from 2016 to 2018 and served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016 .

Life

Greg Steube grew up in Bradenton and studied at the University of Florida , where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2000 and a Juris Doctor degree in 2003 . After graduating, Steube served in the United States Army , where he was deployed in the Iraq War from 2004 until he left in 2008 . Greg Steube is married and has one son.

In 2010, Greg Steube was elected to the Florida State House of Representatives for the 67th constituency. There he took over the seat of Ron Reagan , who had not run for re-election, and represented parts of the Counties Hillsborough , Manatee and Sarasota . Steube was supported by Vern Buchanan, among others . In the internal party primary , Steube prevailed against Jeremiah Guccione and Robert McKann. In the later election prevailed with 68 percent of the vote against the Democratic candidate ZJ Zafeez and the independent John M. Studebaker. After the restructuring of Florida's electoral districts in 2012, Steube represented the 73rd electoral district, in the same year and in the 2014 election he was confirmed in office.

After Nancy Detert left the Florida Senate, Steube applied for the vacant seat and prevailed over the Democrat Frank Alcock. In 2018, Steube finally ran for the seat in the US House of Representatives, which had become vacant due to the departure of Tom Rooney . On August 28, 2018, he was selected as a candidate in the Republican primary, and in the November 6, 2018 election, he defeated Democrat Allen Ellison. On November 20, 2018, Steube resigned from the Florida Senate and took up his new office on January 3, 2019. In the US House of Representatives, Steube represents Florida's 17th congressional electoral district, which includes several counties in the southwest of the state.
