William C. Cramer
William Cato Cramer (born August 4, 1922 in Denver , Colorado , † October 18, 2003 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Cramer attended public school and St. Petersburg Junior College . When the Second World War broke out, he reported for duty at the naval reserve . There he served between 1943 and 1946. He also graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1946 and from Harvard University Law School in Cambridge ( Massachusetts ) in 1948 . He then worked as a lawyer in a private practice.
Cramer was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1950 and remained there until 1952. He ran for the 83rd Congress in 1952, but failed. He was then a delegate or substitute delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions between 1952 and 1984 . From 1964 to 1984 he sat on the Republican National Committee . He was also from 1953 to 1954 prosecutor in Pinellas County .
Cramer was elected a Republican in the 84th and seven subsequent Congresses. His term of office lasted from January 3, 1955 to January 3, 1971. He did not participate in 1956 in the Southern Manifesto , which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions. Cramer did not run again for Congress in 1970, but ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate ; he was subject to Lawton Chiles .
William Cramer died on October 18, 2003 in Saint Petersburg and was buried in the Woodlawn Memory Gardens cemetery there.
