The Reserve of the United States Navy ( Engl. : United States Navy Reserve , abbreviated. : USNR ) is the nationwide reserve component of the US Navy .

history

The United States Naval Reserve was established in 1915. Since 2005 it has been referred to as the United States Navy Reserve .

Obligation

Members of the Navy Reserve serve only part-time , unlike the US Navy professional soldiers . In 2015, the Navy Reserve numbered 108,718 men and women. To become a reserve officer in the US Navy, the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) offers military training alongside a civilian college degree. Currently, 20 percent of naval officers complete the NROTC.
