Thomas Charles "Tom" Feeney III (born May 21, 1958 in Abington , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2009 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom Feeney attended Penn State University until 1980 . After completing a law degree at the University of Pittsburgh and being admitted to the bar in 1983, he began working in his new profession in Oviedo , a suburb of Orlando , Florida. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1990 and 1994 and again from 1996 to 2002 he sat as a member of the House of Representatives from Florida , whose president he was in 2000 as the successor to John E. Thrasher . In 1994 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of lieutenant governor of Florida.

In the 2002 congressional elections , Feeney was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly created 24th  constituency of Florida , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 2003. After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2009 . These were shaped by the events of the Iraq war and its consequences. Feeney was considered one of the most conservative congressmen. He has served on the Finance Committee , the Justice Committee, and the Science and Technology Committee and six sub-committees. In 2006, he was accused of corruption by accepting gifts. He hit the headlines in August 2003 when he was paid for a trip to Scotland to a golf tournament from lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who was later convicted of corruption .

In the 2008 congressional elections, Tom Feeney was defeated by the Democrat Suzanne Kosmas . He is married to Ellen Stewart and lives privately in Oviedo.
