William Henry Brockenbrough

William Henry Brockenbrough (born February 23, 1812 in Virginia , †  January 28, 1850 in Tallahassee , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1846 and 1847 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The exact place of birth of William Brockenbrough is unknown. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in his new profession in Tallahassee, Florida . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1837 he became a Member of the Territorial House of Representatives; between 1840 and 1844 he was a member of the Senate of the Territory, of which he was President in 1842. From 1841 to 1843 he was a federal attorney for the Florida Territory.

After the founding of the state of Florida, Brockenbrough ran unsuccessfully in the first congressional elections. He was defeated by Edward Carrington Cabell of the Whig Party . Brockenbrough appealed against the outcome of the election. After this was granted, he was able to take up his mandate in Congress on January 24, 1846 . By March 3, 1847 he ended the current legislative period there, which was determined by the events of the Mexican-American War .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, William Brockenbrough no longer appeared politically. He died in Tallahassee on January 28, 1850.
