Arthur Patrick "Pat" Cannon (born May 22, 1904 in Powder Springs , Cobb County , Georgia , †  January 23, 1966 in Miami , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1947 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his childhood, Pat Cannon moved with his parents to Laurens County , South Carolina , where he attended public schools. He then graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg and Stetson University in DeLand . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Miami and his admission to the bar in 1931, he began to work in his new profession in Miami.

Politically, Cannon was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1938 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Florida , where he succeeded J. Mark Wilcox on January 3, 1939 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1947 . There, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government by 1941 . Since 1941 the work of the Congress has been shaped by the events of the Second World War and its aftermath.

In 1946 Cannon was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer. Since 1952 he was a district judge in Dade County . He died on January 23, 1966 in Miami, where he was buried.
