Earl Dewitt Hutto (born May 12, 1926 in Midland City , Dale County , Alabama ) is a former American politician . Between 1979 and 1995 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Earl Hutto attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Troy State University until 1949 . During the final stages of World War II , he suspended his studies for two years to serve in the US Navy between 1944 and 1946 . Between 1954 and 1974, Hutto was the sports director and artistic director of various radio stations. From 1973 to 1979 he also ran his own advertising agency.

Politically, Hutto joined the Democratic Party . Between 1972 and 1978 he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives . In the 1978 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Florida , where he succeeded Robert Sikes on January 3, 1979 . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1995 . There he was considered one of the most conservative Democratic MPs. The 27th Amendment to the Constitution was passed while he was a member of Congress .

In 1994 Earl Hutto declined to run again. As a result, he withdrew into his retirement.
