Joseph Edward "Joe" Hendricks (born September 24, 1903 in Lake Butler , Florida , †  October 20, 1974 in Lakeland , Florida) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1949 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joe Hendricks attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at Stetson University until 1930 . After a subsequent law degree at this university and his admission as a lawyer in 1934, he began to work in DeLand in his new profession. At that time he also became an attorney for the Florida State Tax Administration. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1936 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of Florida , where he succeeded William J. Sears on January 3, 1937 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1949 . There, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government by 1941 . Since 1941, the work of Congress has also been determined by the events of World War II and its immediate aftermath.

In 1948 Hendricks renounced another congressional candidacy. After leaving the House of Representatives, he became president of Hendricks Homes Inc. He was also chairman of the Plant City planning committee . He was also a member of the Hillsborough County Planning Committee . He died in Lakeland on October 20, 1974.
