Dave Weldon
David Joseph "Dave" Weldon (born August 31, 1953 in Amityville , Long Island , New York ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2009 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Dave Weldon attended Farmington High School until 1971 and then studied biochemistry at the State University of New York until 1978 . Until 1981 he attended the medical faculty of this university. From 1981 to 1987 he was a member of the US Army , whose reserve he was part of until 1992. He then worked as an internal medicine doctor in Florida.
Politically, Weldon joined the Republican Party . In the 1994 congressional election , he was elected to the 15th constituency of Florida in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Jim Bacchus on January 3, 1995 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2009 . These were shaped by the events of September 11, 2001 and the Iraq war . Weldon was a member of the Grants Committee and two of its sub-committees.
In 2008, Weldon declined to run again. Since leaving the US House of Representatives, he has returned to work as a doctor. He is married and has two children.
