Dannite H. Mays

Dannite Hill Mays (born April 28, 1852 in Madison , Florida , †  May 9, 1930 in Monticello , Florida) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1913 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dannite Mays attended public schools in his home and in Savannah ( Georgia ). He then studied at Washington and Lee University in Lexington ( Virginia ). After completing his studies, he moved to Monticello, where he worked in agriculture. Politically, Mays was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1888 he was a delegate to their regional party congress in Florida. In the years 1891, 1895 and 1897, he was in the Florida House of Representatives voted, whose president he in 1897, succeeding William Sherman Jennings was. In 1900 and 1904 he applied unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for election to governor of Florida.

In the congressional elections of 1908 Mays was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Florida , where he succeeded William Bailey Lamar on March 4, 1909 . After a re-election in 1910, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1913 . In 1912 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After leaving the House of Representatives, Mays returned to Monticello, where he resumed his previous agricultural activity. He died there on May 9, 1930.
