Robert Bullock (born December 8, 1828 in Greenville , North Carolina , † July 27, 1905 in Ocala , Florida ) was a lawyer, politician and brigadier general of the Confederate States of America in the Civil War .

Life

Bullock was born in Granville County , North Carolina in 1828 and later practiced law in Florida. When the Civil War broke out, he joined the Confederate Army and became a captain in the 7th Florida Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in the Battle of the Stones River from December 31, 1862 to January 2, 1863. After his recovery he returned to active service and led his troops at the Battle of Chickamauga on September 19 and 20, 1863. In this battle he lost many of his men, but was also able to take around 150 prisoners. He then took part in the Atlanta campaign from May to September 1864 and was promoted to brigadier general.

After the Civil War, Bullock went back to Florida and continued to work as a lawyer. In 1866 he became a district judge in Marion County . In 1879 he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. March 4, 1889 to March 3, 1893, he belonged as a member of the Democratic Party of the United States House of Representatives on. From 1903 until his death, he served again as a judge in Marion County. He died on July 27, 1905 during a district court hearing he was presiding over.
