Adam H. Putnam (born July 31, 1974 in Bartow , Florida ) is an American politician . Between 2001 and 2011 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives . He has been Florida's Minister of Agriculture since 2011. In 2018 he unsuccessfully applied for the nomination as governor of his state.

Career

Adam Putnam attended Bartow High School and studied at the University of Florida in Gainesville until 1995 . He then worked as a farmer and rancher. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1996 and 2001 he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives .

In the 2000 congressional election , Putnam was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the twelfth constituency of Florida , where he succeeded Charles T. Canady on January 3, 2001 . After four re-elections, he was able to exercise his mandate until January 3, 2011. Putnam was a member of the Finance Committee and two of its sub-committees. When he took office in January 2001, he was the youngest member of Congress. During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . From 2006 to 2007 he chaired the House Republican Policy Committee ; thereafter he served as chairman of the House Republican Conference .

In 2010, Adam Putnam was to succeed Charles H. Bronson Minister of Agriculture ( Commissioner of Agriculture selected) from Florida. He took over this office immediately after leaving Congress.

For the Florida gubernatorial election in 2018 , Putnam ran for nomination as a Republican candidate, but lost his party's primary to Congressman Ron DeSantis, who was supported by President Donald Trump .
