United States House Committee on Financial Services

The United States House Committee on Financial Services (also called House Banking Committee ) is the committee of the United States House of Representatives responsible for overseeing the entire financial services industry. This includes securities trading, insurance, banks and the housing industry. This committee is also responsible for overseeing the work of the Federal Reserve Bank , the US Treasury Department, and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other regulatory agencies.

Jeb Hensarling, a member of the Republican Party of Texas, was chairman from January 2013 to 2019 ; The highest ranking Democrat ( ranking member ) was Maxine Waters from California , who succeeded former committee chairman Barney Frank from Massachusetts in this capacity .

After the Midtermwahlen 2018 in which the Democrats gained the absolute majority of seats in the House, Waters was in January 2019 chairman and Republican Patrick McHenry of North Carolina was Ranking Member (opposition leader).

The committee was originally called the Committee on Banking and Currency and was founded in 1865. He assumed various responsibilities on the Committee on Ways and Means . In 1968 the name was changed.

Subcommittees

There are five subcommittees ( subcommittees ) after the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology and the Subcommittee on International Monetary Policy and Trade have been merged to form a committee.
