Andrea Glass (born July 17, 1976 in Darmstadt ) is a former German tennis player .

Career

Andrea Glass was a successful tennis player even as a teenager. In 1997 she became German champion in singles and also in doubles with her partner Barbara Rittner . Her most successful Grand Slam tournament was the Australian Open in 1999, when she lost to Anna Kurnikowa in three sets in the round of 32 . After this tournament she reached her best position in the world rankings with place 53 . One of her greatest successes in singles is the three-set win over Arantxa Sánchez Vicario in the second round at Hilton Head in 1998. Sánchez Vicario was number 5 in the world rankings at that time. In this tournament, Glass failed only in the quarterfinals against the later tournament winner Amanda Coetzer .

In doubles she was able to reach the semi-finals four times in tournaments on the WTA Tour .

From 1998 to 2001 Andrea Glass played for Germany in the Fed Cup . Your personal record is 3: 6 wins in singles and 0: 3 in doubles. Her greatest success in the Fed Cup was the promotion game against Japan in 1999 in Hamburg. She won both singles and Germany was first class again. In 1998, in a match against Spain, she defeated the top ten player Conchita Martínez in three sets.

She played her last professional match in 2003 in the doubles competition at the Australian Open. Constant injuries and Pfeiffer's glandular fever forced her to retire from professional sports.

Private

Andrea Glass is married to the former Argentinian tennis professional and current coach Sebastian Weisz. She runs a tennis school in Neu-Isenburg.
