William Lehman

William Lehman (born October 5, 1913 in Selma , Alabama , †  March 16, 2005 in Miami Beach , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1973 and 1993 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Lehman attended the Dallas Academy and then until 1930 the Selma High School . He then studied until 1934 at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa . Subsequently he worked as a car dealer and teacher. Between 1966 and 1972, Lehman served on the Dade County's school board . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1972 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly created 13th  constituency of Florida , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1973. After nine re-elections, he was able to complete ten legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . Since 1983 he represented the also newly established 17th district of his state. At the beginning of his time in the US House of Representatives, his work was also shaken by the Watergate affair . In 1992 the 27th Amendment to the Constitution was passed.

In 1992, William Lehman declined to run again. He died on March 16, 2005 in Miami Beach.
