David Rivera

David Mauricio Rivera (born September 16, 1965 in New York City ) is an American politician . From 2011 to 2013 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Rivera, son of Cuban immigrants, has lived in Florida since 1974, where he graduated from Miami Christian High School . He then studied political science at Florida International University in Miami until 1986 . He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . At times he worked on the staff of US Senator Connie Mack . In 1996 he led the unsuccessful presidential campaign of Bob Dole in Florida . Rivera also served on the Florida Republican Party board and chairman of Miami-Dade County . Between 2002 and 2010 he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives .

In the 2010 congressional elections , Rivera was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 25th  constituency of Florida with 52.1 percent of the vote against Democrat Joe Garcia . district exchanged Mario Diaz-Balart took. In Congress , Rivera was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources, as well as four sub-committees.

On September 6, 2002, Rivera caused a traffic accident with a truck that carried thousands of posters from its then political competitor to a postal office. Due to the accident, the posters could not be sent by post in time. His information about previous additional earnings also turned out to be incorrect.

In the November 2012 congressional elections, Rivera had to admit defeat to Democratic challenger Joe Garcia after the constituency had become significantly less republican as a result of the regular redesign following the 2010 census. In addition, the Florida Ethics Commission had found in the previous month that as a member of the House of Representatives he had violated good morals eleven times ("ethics laws violations"). On January 3, 2013, Rivera left office.
